CBC Tour Follow-Up and Meeting Notice

Thank you to everyone who came out for the first library tour of the season at the CBC! We all had a wonderful time and we hoped you enjoyed it.

Special thanks to our tour guides, Laura Warner (CBC media librarian) and Geoffrey Hopkinson (Director of CBC Libraries, Archives & Documentation) for letting us explore the libraries within the broadcast centre. The areas we visited were:

The SLA Student Group would like to invite all of you to attend our general meeting on October 18th at 12:10 pm in the Student Lounge. The meeting should last about an hour.

If you are interested in joining the SLA-TSG it is especially important that you attend. Our goal is to find some first-year students who would like to run the SLA-TSG in the 2012/2013 year. Positions include:

First year co-chair
First year social events chair
First year webmaster
Secretary

free one-year student membership below....

Two Free SLA Student Memberships Available

Are you a Library/Information Science student interested in Sci-Tech
Librarianship? Would you like to join the Special Libraries Association
(SLA)? The Student Relations Committee of the Sci-Tech Division of SLA
is offering a FREE one-year membership in SLA (includes affiliation
with the Sci-Tech Division as well as one chapter affiliation of your choice)!

To be eligible for one of the free student memberships, all you have to
do is come up with some creative & relevant ways that the Sci-Tech
Division should engage with library/information science students who are looking
forward to a career in Sci-Tech librarianship.

connected to a wealth of professional development opportunities, colleagues, and

CBC Library Tour Confirmed!

Our tour of the CBC Library and Archive has been confirmed! If you would like to join us on this tour then please send an email to sla.tsg.1[at]gmail.com. There are only 30 spaces available so make sure you let us know if you would like to join us as soon as possible to guarantee yourself a space. CBC has requested a list of all attendees by Monday, October 3rd, at the latest.

Here are the details:

Where: 250 Front Street West. We will meet at the Front St. entrance.
Time: 9:45am.
Duration: 1.5 hours.
What: On this tour will we be visiting the following - Media Centre, Visual Research, Reference, Music, Image Research, Film, VTR, DIVA Deep Archive.

This promises to be an interesting, exciting and informative tour. We hope you can join us on our first event of the 2011-2012 season.

Thank You!

Thank you to everyone who visited us at the iSchool's Clubs and Associations Open House. We had a great time talking to everyone about the SLA-TSG and our plans for the year. Thank you as well for all of the wonderful suggestions!

Some of you expressed interest in joining the Special Libraries Association. The cost to join is $40 for students. The SLA maintains a very active listserv. Membership allows you access to webinars, SLA events and a host of other benefits.

Also, a reminder: You are not required to be a member of the SLA to participate in SLA-TSG events. We welcome everyone who is interest to participate in our tours and talks.

Welcome to the 2011-2012 School Year!

Welcome to the Special Libraries Association - Toronto Student Group (SLA-TSG). It's a new school year and that means we are ready to get back into the action.

Come meet us at the iSchool's Clubs and Associations Open House on Thursday, September 22nd from 4:00pm to 6:00pm in the student lounge (7th floor, Bissell Building, 140 St. George St.). Here you can sign up for our listserv and provide us with some input on potential library tours, panels of guest speakers, and any other events you think we should run.
