Upcoming Webinar in First Five Years Council - "Suddenly...I'm Marketing the Library!"

Nominations are now open for SLA’s IT Division Student award!


2014 Joe Ann Clifton Student Award submissions -- IT Division 

Submissions are now being accepted for the 2014 Joe Ann Clifton Student Award from the IT Division of the Special Libraries Association (SLA). This award is intended to promote participation in the SLA Annual Conference by an exceptional library science student. The recipient of this award will receive:

  • Student membership in SLA for one (1) year.
  • Reimbursement for expenses to attend the SLA Annual Conference, not to exceed $1,500 and limited to the following:
    • Economy class round-trip airfare to the Annual Conference (June 8-10, Vancouver)
    • Student registration for the Annual Conference.
    • Lodging during the conference.
    • Transportation during the conference.

The winner will be recognized at IT events during the Annual Conference and also at the Annual Business Meeting of the IT Division, held via web meeting after the conference where the winner will present the paper. The winning paper will also be published in b/ITe, the official Division newsletter.

Submission Requirements

  • The topic of the paper should pertain to the use of information technology. A paper which addresses a topic in a practical rather than a theoretical manner is preferred.
  • Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited MLS or MIS program at the time of the award competition. Previous winners are not eligible for the award.
  • Entries may be a paper which the applicant has written or is preparing for a class but has not been published. Only one paper per applicant will be accepted.
  • IT reserves the right not to award the prize if it is the opinion of the judges that no submission is worthy of the award.
  • IT will retain first publication rights of the winning paper.
  • Paper should be between 4-15 pages in length (content for a 15-20 minute presentation, if selected).  See these past winners as examples:

The deadline for submission is February 28, 2014 (Friday). E-mail your paper to Beth Kraemer, IT Membership and Awards Chair, at kraemer@email.uky.edu. Please include "SLA IT Student Award 2014" in the subject line.

LIS students are invited to apply for the $5,000 Roger K. Summit Scholarship.

The Roger K. Summit Scholarship, awarded annually by ProQuest, was established to honor Dr. Roger K. Summit, the founder of Dialog, for his outstanding contributions to the field of information science.

This $5,000 (USD) award is presented to a student currently enrolled in an accredited library or information science program anywhere in the world. It is one of the many ways ProQuest shows its support for librarianship!
