SLA Name Change

The SLA (Special Libraries Association) is proposing a new name!!! It has been found that the current name does not effectively capture the diversity of individuals who make up the membership of SLA. SLA conducted the Alignment Project to gain a better understanding of what some alternatives to the name SLA could be. After 3 years of research and discussion, the name being offered up is the Association for Strategic Knowledge Professionals (ASKPro). This new name has already been subjected to surveying and now SLA wants to know what you think.

Beginning on November 16th, SLA members will be able to participate in an e-vote system that will serve as a referendum on this proposed name change. The voting will be open until December 9th and results will be announced December 10th. SLA has a specials page provided where you can go to see frequently asked questions and opinions and responses to these questions. The link to this page is http://www.sla.org/content/SLA/governance/namechange/qa.cfm.

If you are not already an SLA this would be a great time to join and have your say on what you think about ASKPro as the new and improved name for the Special Libraries Association.

Get Involved!!!

Want to get involved with the SLA-TSG? Want to see what it’s all about? Come out on Wednesday October 7 from 5-6pm in the 7th floor student lounge and meet with the SLA-TSG executive. We have a few executive positions open for first year students so if you think you the one for the job come out and tell us why. If you can’t make the meeting send us an email with a bio about why you think you are the one for the job.

If you are just curious about what professional association student groups do feel free to come out and ask any questions you might have.
