Time 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

(Maximum capacity 25 students)

Globe and Mail Resource Center and Photo Archive
October 3, 2008
Time: 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM

(Maximum capacity 20 students)

Come see what it's like to be an employee at either of these highly atypical information workplaces! Email us to reserve a spot.

And please do it soon, as space is limited and will be apportioned on a first-come-first-served basis.

SLA/CASLIS End of Summer Event (August 21)

Last Thursday, a merry combination of SLA-TSG members and iSchool students made their way to the Bedford Academy Pub for the joint SLA/CASLIS End of Summer event. The turnout was outstanding (so outstanding, in fact, that there was nowhere left to sit!), and the weather was lovely. Along with unexpected free food and samples of beer (betcha wish you'd been there now, eh Steve? :p), the evening provided an opportunity to meet new people, to chat with information professionals, and to catch up with former FIS alumni.

I was especially happy to get a chance to talk to Eileen Lewis (2008 graduate), and to discuss her new position as Research Manager of the Resource Dept. at the Toronto United Way. Along with answering several of my questions on special libraries and the transition between iSchool and 'I work', Eileen graciously agreed to be a Professional Profile interview candidate in the future.

For more information on our Professional Profile series, including how YOU can get involved, please visit the SLA-TSG website.

SLA-TSG Event: Meet and Mingle (August 7)

This past Thursday was SLA-TSG's first function of the 2008-2009 school year. (Okay, so school hasn't started just yet. We couldn't wait.)

Members converged on the patio of the Ferret and Firkin pub on Spadina Ave., just south of Bloor Street, to drink, eat, and discuss matters of dire importance: tours and events to take place during the coming year; the future direction of our nascent Professional Profiles interview series; the number of Buffalo wings a single person could possibly consume on ten-cent wing night. Weighty stuff.

By the gathering's conclusion, a number of intersting proposals had been put forth by everyone present. Even now, these proposals are in the process of becoming plans. When those plans materialize, expect to see them detailed here and on our site.

At this early date, only one thing seems certain: The SLA-TSG will meet for drinks again.
